Lot 4, section “Sandanski – Kulata” with a total length of 15 km, and 4,200 m of new railway track on the “Sofia – Kulata” line.
The “Sandanski-Kulata” section is part of E-79 first-class road: Vidin-Sofia, ”Kulata” border crossing point.
Connections have been built on the route to the towns of Novo Delchevo, Damyanitsa, Petrich, and Melnik.
The railway line “Sofia-Kulata” is completely new in the section “General Todorov-Marino Pole”, with a length of 4,200 m and a design speed of 160 km/h.
Two stage connections have also been built to connect the site to the existing E-79 international road.
During the construction of Lot 4, 16 large structures were completed.
The following are more complex in terms of construction and technology:
the additional connections for the villages of Novo Delchevo and Damyanitsa with the “Struma” Motorway;
the “Petrich-Melnik” road junction;
the road connections for the village of Marikostinovo;
the facility for crossing the “General Todorov-Kulata” railway line.
Railway overpasses and four bridges have been built over the Levunovska, Potoka, Sklavska, and Marikostenska rivers.
The engineering networks and water supply and irrigation facilities within the scope of the motorway have been reconstructed.
During the course of the work, a huge amount of construction work has been carried out, including:
over 3 million m3 of excavations and 1.5 million m3 of embankments;
over 270,000 tons of asphalt mix and over 24,000 m² of road markings were laid;
over 83,000 m of safety fences and nets and over 24,000 m of curbs were installed.
The completed route has a total length of 14.7 km and a design speed of 120 km/h. The carriageway has a total width of 29 m, with each lane being 3.75 m wide.
