“Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo” Motorway, bypass of the town of Byala

Lot 2 (Bjala bypass from km 40+640 to km 76+040) has a total length of 35.969 km, starting after the full cloverleaf interchange with road I-5 “Ruse – Byala” at km 40+071 from the previous section of the motorway. The end of the project section is at km 76+040 immediately after the “Full cloverleaf” type road junction with road I-3 “Pleven – Byala”.

Lot 2 has four lanes for active traffic, two emergency lanes, and a design speed of 120 km/h. The project includes the construction of four interchanges, four viaducts, one agricultural overpass, and three agricultural underpasses. Drainage facilities, construction, and reconstruction of engineering networks are also planned.

The “Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo” Motorway is part of the Pan-European Motorway (European Transport Corridor IX), connecting Europe with Istanbul and the Middle East, and from there with Africa.

The main objective of the project is to significantly reduce heavy traffic and road accidents on the existing I-5 road; to limit negative environmental impacts; to increase the level of connectivity in the region and to enhance the economic development opportunities of Northern Bulgaria.
