The project covers the section from kilometer 356+455 to kilometer 372+806 in the Blagoevgrad area, with a total length of 24 kilometers.
As part of the activities, a completely new asphalt pavement was laid, the horizontal and vertical markings were renewed, a new shoulder was laid, and the road lighting was restored – for the first time in nearly four decades.
European route E79 is one of the most important transport arteries in Bulgaria. It connects the cities of Vidin, Vratsa, Botevgrad, Sofia, Pernik, and Blagoevgrad before continuing to Greece via the Kulata border crossing. The road is part of Trans-European Transport Corridor IV, which connects Budapest and Athens and is a key axis for trade and tourism between Bulgaria and the rest of Europe.
The rehabilitated section is also of strategic importance as an alternative route to the “Struma” Motorway, providing better passability and a higher level of safety in cases of heavy traffic or temporary traffic restrictions on the “Struma” Motorway.
